Richmond 365, National Post shout-out and…

Good things come in three’s, right? Well, if that’s the case, I’m trembling in anticipation as to the potential of what #3 could be!

#1 – Of the 1500 applicants for the 365 Days of Dining in Richmond, BC, I have been shortlisted to the top 12! Twelve as in a dozen, as in this just became real!

In a nutshell – 365 days, 365 restaurants, 365 meals, 365 posts, a salary of $50,000, a call-out for dining companions (yes, I’m looking at all of you), countless ways to help promote Tourism Richmond, a chance to connect with the world and a gym membership to the Richmond Oval to offset the endless number of calories!

As for where this is all occurring, it’s in Richmond, BC, which just happens to have every type of Asian cuisine imaginable. Not to mention this picturesque small town within Richmond called Steveston which is right off the water and about as idyllic as it comes.

The top 12 will eventually get whittled down to the top 3 and from there the “winner” will be announced. There will be a voting component as the top vote-getter will automatically advance to the final 3 and the other two finalists will be chosen by the Tourism Richmond panel. Selfishly, I want to advance to the final 3 based on merit, so a simple encouragement of “Go E!” is really great and much appreciated! However, I know there are some of you who want to do more than yell “Go E!” so here is the link to vote on the Tourism Richmond Facebook page. Whether you vote and/or cheer me on, thank you.

Soft Tofu Soup

In anticipation of this week, I made my way over to Richmond this past weekend for some food prop shopping and some very important eating “research.” I’m happy to report I found an incredible stall/kiosk in a food court that prepared the Soft Tofu Soup you see before you.

The soft tofu in the soup gives silky smooth a whole new meaning and the thick broth was both perfectly sweet and sour. I took a chance by grabbing the unmarked condiment bottle on the counter and was happy to see drops of chili oil splatter like art into the soup. It was the ultimate complement to the soup which honestly didn’t need anything else to make it better, but yet somehow it did.

I’m now one step closer and can’t wait to share the next steps with y’all! And if nothing, else, it’s an honour to be nominated! And to the other 11, good luck!

#2 – On April 14th, I was named one of Canada’s best food bloggers by the National Post! I have no idea how they determined that and yes, I’m totally humbled by the recognition, but happy to accept it! Blogging has always been a creative outlet and recognition will never replace personal satisfaction, but who doesn’t like the occasional pat on the back, right? Me and my soup are at the bottom of the page. I’d like to think the ad spot beside me for FlyerCity.ca cost more because of its proximity to me. Wishful thinking, huh?

#3 – I have no idea what this one will be. Maybe it’s food-related, job-related, life-related or even future girlfriend/wife-related. Or maybe, just maybe after playing the same Lotto 6/49 numbers for almost 20 years, I’m finally about to hit the jackpot!

Whatever it is, I’ll be sure to enjoy the ride.

Selfishly, I think #3 should be puppy-related. Then again, I’m only here for the Instagram photos ;)

Congrats, Ethan! Couldn’t have happened to a better person (or a person who loves Asian cuisine more!).

OMG!! Congrats on ALL fronts! That 365 Days on Dining is such a good opportunity! I’m green with envy…but I’m supporting you all the way since you are colleagues with Mardi at FBC! Hehehe. Also, I have relatives in Richmond, BC! It’s been years since I’ve been, but I remember the harbour town of Steveston! Nice! Good luck!
